Three days after former Super Eagles player and coach StephenKeshi died in Benin City another highly decorated coach of several Nigerian
national teams, Amodu Shuiabu has passed on.
Ex Super Eagles coach, Shuaibu Amodu, has passed on at the age
of 58.
The sad news came three days after another former national team
boss, Stephen Keshi, died of a reported cardiac arrest in Benin City.
Amodu, until the time of his death, was the Technical Director
of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Confirming the news, NFF tweeted from their official Twitter
handle: “NFF Technical Director, Amodu Shuaibu has died at the age of 58”.
Mr.
Amodu died in his sleep early today according to a statement by the Nigerian
Football Federation. The remains of Amodu has been deposited at the morgue of
Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin City, incidentally the same facility where
Keshi's body was deposited three days ago after his sudden death.
Playing career:
Amodu, a striker, played for Dumez and Niger Tornadoes. His
playing career ended after he broke his leg.
Coaching career
Amodu has managed a number of club sides in Nigeria, such as BCC
Lions, El-Kanemi Warriors, and Shooting Stars; he also managed Orlando Pirates
in South Africa.
He first managed the Nigerian national team from April 2001 to
February 2002.Amodu later stated that his dismissal was "unfair",and
also said that, a month later, he had yet to receive a formal letter confirming
his dismissal.
He was re-appointed manager in April 2008. In December 2009 the
Nigeria Football Federation stated that Amodu was under pressure,and in January
2010 there was speculation about his future.He was sacked in February 2010.
Amodu was appointed technical director of Nigeria's national
teams in May 2013.
He was re-appointed Nigeria manager in October 2014, replacing
Stephen Keshi.It was his fifth spell in charge of the country.Keshi returned to
the role two weeks later but was fired in July 2015 and Amodu took over the Eagles
again temporarily. He was replaced by Sunday Oliseh on a permanent basis later
that month.

The corpse of the late Nigeria Football Federation
Technical Director and former Super Eagles Coach, Amodu Shaibu, has left the
Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin in a convoy for his hometown, Okpella.
Amodu who died this morning in Benin City is
scheduled for burial today according to Islamic rites.
His death, which comes three days after that of
ex-Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, has shocked Nigerians with football fans,
friends and associates paying tribute on the social media.
