WhatsApp Extends Support For BB Devices Till June 2017 Before Final Shut Down

As against the initial announcement that was made in February this year, Whatsapp has extended the support deadline issued to Blackberry OS and Blackberry 10 devices.

The reason for this extension is yet to be revealed, but we believe the change of mind is good for the blackberry users as they will have enough time to get a new device.
The date was extended from 31st Dec. 2016 to 30th June, 2017.

This was announced in a blog post made that reads as follows:

WhatsApp support for mobile devices As announced in our blog, we will soon be ending support for certain devices. On June 30, 2017, we will no longer support the following platforms:
  •
  • BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10
  • Nokia S40
  • Nokia Symbian S60
The following platforms will no longer be supported at the beginning of 2017:
  • Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
  • Windows Phone 7
  • iPhone 3GS/iOS 6
These platforms don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android running OS 2.3+, a Windows Phone 8+, or an iPhone running iOS 7+ before the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp.

The new update for the BlackBerry 10 version is available through BlackBerry World right now but keep in mind; it's a re-setting of the time-bomb built into the app, which will now no longer go off at the end of 2016.

5 matches you must not miss this weekend

The English Premier League will be the first league in Europe to begin the 2016/2017 season as matches will be played over the weekend across England.

However, there are also engagements in Spain for the Super Cup trophy as well as the quarter final matches in the football event at the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil. Here are the top five matches to watch for the weekend

1. Hull City vs Leicester City: The Foxes will begin their title defence in the new Premier League season as they are guests to newly promoted Hull City at the Molineux.

With the exit of N’Golo Kante to Chelsea, Leicester are battling with to keep Riyad Mahrez at the King Power Stadium but with Ahmed Musa, Jamie Vardy and Okazaky in attack they are still a formidable side.

2. Liverpool vs Arsenal: Jurgen Klopp and Arsene Wenger renew their rivalry in the biggest match in England this weekend as The Reds with a bolstered squad take-on the last season’s runners-up.

Wenger has not made a big summer signing yet but with Sanchez and Ozil in the starting XI, the Gunners are equal to the task to compete against the Anfield giants.

3. Bournemouth vs Manchester United: For the first time in history, Jose Mourinho will be managing a rival team aside Chelsea as he intends to bring the back glamour back to Old Trafford.

Mourinho brought in Ibrahimovic, Mkhitaryan, Bailly and the world’s most expensive player Pogba, United will have no excuse not to pick-up maximum points away to their opponents.

4. Barcelona vs Sevilla: It will be an all Spanish affair as the Baulgrana lock horns with Sevilla in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup. It will be an explosive episode as both teams compete for bragging rights.

Messi and Suarez were the stars of the show when Barcelona defeated Sampdoria 3-2 and the pair will be looking to replicate their form in the Super Cup tie.

5. Nigeria vs Denmark: At this level of the competition there are no second chances for any team as the Samson Siasia-led Dream Team continue their quest in search for gold at the Rio Olympics.

The U-23 team have been plagued with financial difficulties and controversies, but Siasia and his boys will want to get fired-up for the quarter final match against their European opponent.

Preview: Colombia vs Nigeria (Rio Olympics)

Group B’s top two teams Nigeria (6 points) and Colombia (2 points) face-off today, August 10 at the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, as the group games of Rio Olympics men’s football tournament rounds off.

While Nigeria will be looking to secure nine points and a 100% record in the competition, the game is a must-win for Colombia if they want to advance to the next round. However, Colombia should not expect any favours from their opponents, with captain and Chelsea midfielder Mikel John Obi maintaining that his team will not lose focus on their target to win the gold medal.

Although, Nigeria’s coach Samson Siasia has disclosed that he intends to rest some of his starters in the game, the 48-year-old still looks likely to feature a strong squad.

“I had to take this decision to rest some players because we have qualified for the quarter finals as group leaders, and secondly I need to rest some of the starters because in the next phase there is a possibility of going into extra time. “For now the boys have done well and I need to make the other players justify why I selected them for this tournament. This is not a tea party so everyone must stand up to be counted, and the only way they can be counted is if they play well against Colombia. Resting some starters does not mean we are under –rating the opposition,” he said. The Colombians on the other hand, have had a decent performance thus far at the competition, drawing both of their matches against Sweden and Japan by the score of 2-2. They relied on the greatness of striker Teofilo Gutierrez, who featured in this tournament instead of the Copa America last month.

This game promises to be a cracker. Kick-off time 11pm (Nigerian time).

Colombia XI: 1. Cristian Bonilla, 2. William Testillo, 3. Deivy Balanta, 8. Dorlan Pabon, 10. Teofilo Gutierrez (C), Harold Preciado, 12. Andres Roa, 13. Helibelton Palacios, 15. Wilmar Barrios, 16. Kevin Balanta, 17. Cristian Borja Subs: 18. Luis Hurtado (GK), 4. Deiver Machado, 6. Jefferson Lerma, 7. Arley Rodriguez, 9. Miguel Borja, 14. Sebastian Perez

Nigeria XI: 1. Daniel Akpeyi (GK), 2. Muenfuh Sincere, 3. Kingsley Madu, 6. William Ekong, 7. Aminu Umar, 8. Oghenekaro Etebo, 10. John Obi Mikel (C), 12. Popoola Saliu, 13. Sadiq Umar, 14. Okechukwu Azubuike, 15. Ndifreke Udo Subs: 18. Emmanuel Daniel (GK), 4. Abdullahi Shehu, 5. Saturday Erimuya, 9. Imoh Ezekiel, 11. Oluwafemi Ajayi, 16. Stanley Amuzie

Breaking:JAMB withdraws 2016 admission lists sent to schools

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has today withdrawn the list of recommended candidates for admission earlier sent to tertiary institutions.

According to  Dr Fabian Benjamin, JAMB Head of Media,  the list was withdrawn to enable the Senate of the respective institutions perform the statutory responsibility of conducting the selection of candidates and refer it to JAMB.

He added that it was also withdrawn to enable the institutions confirm the admission in line with the criteria of merit, catchment area and educationally disadvantaged states, as directed by the Minister of Education at the policy committee meeting.

Said Benjamin: “The earlier list was sent to help fast track the process of admission so as to allow other tiers of institutions also conduct their admission.”

He urged candidates not to panic, saying it was part of the process of the 2016 admission exercise.

He however, expressed regret over any inconvenience the decision would have caused the tertiary institutions.

A partially blind woman, Kelly of Chitungwiza, has ventured into prostitution claiming she wants to raise money for eye surgery. Kelly told H-Metro that she is trying to raise US$500 needed for her treatment while her lover, Elton, guarantees her security so that her customers do not take advantage of her.
Kelly comes from Mudzi where most of her relatives live but has since stopped visiting them.
“I record those who engage Kelly for security purposes and I make sure she is kept warm by collecting pieces of cardboard boxes to make fire,” Elton said. Explaining her situation, Kelly said: “My life is no longer the same following the passing on of my mother and this forced me into prostitution my brother. I have no problem of accommodation since I am renting a room with my boyfriend Elton in Unit K Chitungwiza and he is the one who keeps all the money I receive from the men I render services to.
                                            Elton

Naira has fallen to its lowest level against dollar, checkout new rate

Based on current reports Nigeria’s currency, Naira crashed to its lowest level at parallel market since the start of the new foreign exchange regime, on Wednesday, July 20.

The naira’s black market value which has stayed unchanged for two days at N365/$1, dropped 3 points to trade at N368/$1 in the early hours of today. Currency traders puts the blame of the poor performance of the naira to the scarcity of the greenback, adding that the demand for dollar far outstripped its supply.

According to a Bureau De Change operator in Lagos, the naira instability at the parallel market this week could be traced to the activities of the CBN.
“But I believe it is high time the CBN checkmated this spike. The BDCs can be empowered by giving us access to the CBN window.” The local currency has been on the downward swing following a plunge in crude oil prices and a consequent decline in Nigeria’s foreign reserves.

According to the CBN governor Godwin Emefiele, it is frightening that the nation was experiencing economic stagnation and inflation at the same time. Emefiele said that if the present situation in the country continued, the federal government might not be able to pay salaries of its workers with effect from October this year.

Street football turns bloody as boy stabs SS2 student to death in Lagos

A bloody clash in a street football game between youths in Okota, Lagos, has claimed the life of Michael Tanko, SS2 student of Hills International School.

According to a report on Vanguard, what should have been a friendly street football game turned bloody after one of the players stabbed Tanko to death during a misunderstanding.

It was gathered that the tragic incident occurred after youths from Oseni Liade street were playing football at the end of the street, when a group of boys from neighbouring Taiwo street came to join them.

However, the visiting youths were told to wait for their turn. Shortly after the end of the first round, another set of players, among who were the visiting youths, were expected to take over the football pitch, but eyewitnesses said they were disallowed, an action that triggered a fight.

In the process, one of them, Kayode Babayanju, of 8, Taiwo Street, was alleged to have stabbed Michael Tanko in the hollow of his left elbow. Tanko, SS2 student, reportedly chased his assailant until he became dizzy and slumped. He was confirmed dead moments before reaching the hospital he was rushed to.

According to doctors at the hospital, Tanko bled to death, as the arteries in the hollow of the elbow were cut. He was an orphan, who came to live with his uncle in Lagos last year, after the demise of his only sibling.
It was gathered that his guardian, Oke Obi Odiaka, was still in shock as at Monday, July 18, when the news got to him. Also, there are reports that the mother of the fleeing assailant and her relatives went visiting Tanko’s guardian at about 4pm yesterday. She was said to have gone down on her knees and begged in tears immediately the woman sighted the bereaved family.
However, the family insisted that they produce their fleeing son to the police.

Confirming the incident, Lagos state police command’s spokesman, Superintendent Dolapo Badmus, said: “Effort is being intensified to arrest the suspect who fled the scene immediately after committing the offence. The corpse has been deposited at the Isolo General Hospital morgue.”

This young boy has no arms or legs, see how he learned to use what he’s got!

This is amazing, I felt very inspired when l saw the story of this 11years old Tiyo Satrio who refuses to give up, despite his physical condition he never accepted defeat just like Nick  Vujicic.

The little Nick was born in Indonesia, at the little village Penawangan, West Java. This boy is full of life and courage. He refused to give up over what he does not have and uses what he’s got!
Even though there are no fingers or hands to hold the pen, he learned to write well handling the pen with his mouth.

The mother carrying the baby had no clue there was something wrong with him. Even after the birth they did not show the boy to her right away and told her, he was fine.
Tioy has 4 older siblings.

They already moved out of the parents’ house. So, the newborn baby has become a full-time job for his mom and dad. The boy does his best to be independent and learn how to do things on his own.

He manages to play a PC game and unwraps the sweets using his teeth. Still, he needs a lot of assistance in getting around, dressing up, etc. The boy is smart. Here is what his teacher says: “Now he is second grade, and he can do fourth-grade mathematics problems, such as multiplication and division.”

Hopefully, his story will end well as that of the famous preacher Nick Vujicic. Tioy is a brave boy!

I praise God for his life.

SAY A BRIEF PRAYER FOR THIS YOUNG INNOCENT BOY

Facebook Messenger starts testing end-to-end-encryption in secret chat mode

Facebook is currently testing their new added feature on the facebook messenger app  to ensure that, as it becomes an indispensable way to communicate — people are able to do so securely and safely.

Messenger uses secure communications channels (just like banking and shopping websites) as well as Facebook’s powerful tools to help block spam and malware. We’ve heard from you that there are times when you want additional safeguards — perhaps when discussing private information like an illness or a health issue with trusted friends and family, or sending financial information to an accountant.

Facebook officially announced today that they’re testing end-to-end encryption within Messenger, locking down conversations so that even Facebook can’t access the content therein. However, unlike other messaging platforms where the end-to-end encryption is active by default and covers all conversations, Facebook will let Messenger users turn it on in a chat-by-chat basis. To differentiate between these standard and encrypted conversations, Facebook is calling them Secret Conversations.

“To enable you to do this we are starting to test the ability to create one-to-one secret conversations in Messenger that will be end-to-end encrypted and which can only be read on one device of the person you’re communicating with. That means the messages are intended just for you and the other person — not anyone else, including us. Within a secret conversation, you can also choose to set a timer to control the length of time each message you send remains visible within the conversation. Our technology uses the Signal Protocol developed by Open Whisper Systems. You can read more about the technical details here.”

Enabling secret conversations within Messenger is optional. Facebook explained that some people prefer to use the app across multiple devices, but when you have secret conversations, you’re limited to just one device. This option is only available for text conversations, so GIFs, videos, payment transactions, or “other popular Messenger features” are not currently supported.

The company emphasized that it’s currently just testing out this feature but added that the security feature is likely to be made more available later this summer. In a blog post, Facebook said “We are putting a lot of thought into the design and implementation of this feature, and we are grateful to the security and privacy experts who have given us their valuable input.” A major player in the development of this feature is Open Whisper Systems, a security-related technologies provider of private messaging and calling.

JAMB releases new guidelines for 2016/2017 admission process

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has released its guidelines for the 2016 admissions’ process.
The exam body said it has adopted what it termed the point system option after an extensive one-week meeting JAMB had with universities and other tertiary institutions’ administrators in the country.
While explaining how the admission process would work for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination candidates and direct entry students, the organisation stated that universities were going to charge fees for screening of candidates at the end of the process for admission.

According to JAMB, “the new method uses a point system to offer provisional admission to candidates.”
“Before a candidate can be considered for screening, he/she must have been offered a provisional admission by JAMB. The JAMB admission checker portal is going to be opened soon for this process, so praying is all you can do now,” JAMB said.
The statement said, “JAMB’s provisional admission no longer makes much sense this year, your points tally will decide your faith. The points are evenly spread out between your O’ Level and JAMB results to provide a level-playing field for all.
“In the first case, any candidate who submits only one result which contains his/her relevant subjects already has 10 points. The exam could be NECO, WASSCE, November/December WASSCE etc, but any candidate who has two sittings only gets 2 points. So this means that candidates with only one result are at an advantage but only just.”

The organisation added that the “next point grades fell into the O’ Level grades where each grade would have it equivalent point; A=6 marks, B=4 marks, C=3 marks, so the better the candidates’ grades, the better his or her chances of securing admission this year.
“The next point is the UTME scores where each score range has its equivalent point which can be summarised thus, 180-200=20-23 marks, 200-250=24-33 points, 251-300=34-43, 300-400=44-60 points,” JAMB explained.
Giving a breakdown, JAMB explained that each category would contain five JAMB results per point added.
For example a candidate with 180-185 gets 20 points, while a candidate with 186-190 gets 21 points.
JAMB added that the point system for direct entry would be released soon.
JAMB stated that fees would still be charged for screening which would replace the Post UTME test.
JAMB also emphasised that catchment and educationally less-developed state would still be used for admission into the nation’s tertiary institutions.
JAMB said, “Merit contains 45 per cent of the total candidates for a particular course, Catchment contains 35 per cent and ELDS and staff lists contains the rest. Cut off marks will be released by the institutions this year in the form of points and not marks.
READ ALSO:  PROPOSED JAMB MODEL FOR SCREENING OF RECOMMENDED CANDIDATES

“If a school declares its cut off mark for Medicine as 90 points and JAMB grants a candidate with 250 a provisional admission but his/her total points falls short of the 90 points, then he/she will lose the admission. So the provisional admission is just a means to an end, not the end in itself.”

If you have 1 sitting.. it's automatically 10 points for you

Calculate your O'level aggregate of the 5 subject

A1 = 6
B2, B3 = 4
C4,C5,C6 = 3

Let's say one has 2 A's and 3 B's

6+6+4+4+4 = 24

Assuming one had 250
In utme = 33

Add all together

10 +24 + 33 = 67

Aggregate = 67
For jamb
Soo for jamb
180-185=20pts
186-190=21pts
191-195=22pts
196-200=23pts
201-205=24pts
206-210=25pts...
In that order sha....
to make the 60points obtainable for 396-400=60pts..
So for example,  an aspirant with 1 sittings O'level(10pts) 2 A1s(12pts) 3Cs(9pts) and 292 in jamb(42pts) will then have a total screening score of 73%
thats it just calculate it.
