Blackberry Quits Production Of Mobile Phones

What an end of era! popular phone brand "BlackBerry" has officially announced the stop of phone manufacturing after huge loss in the Smartphone market.



After 14 years in the mobile phone business, embattled phone maker, Blackberry has announced that it is no longer going to design its own smartphones.

The company, which is famed for its "Qwerty" keyboard mobile phones that were the choice handset for professionals, has been struggling to keep up with market leaders Apple and Samsung as the world has moved to touchscreens.

As a result, the loss-making business said it is going to focus on creating software for mobile phones, rather than the devices themselves.

The blackberry CEO John Chen said this in a press release on Sept. 28, He stated specifically that the company's future lies in software, mobile management, and security. At the end of the day, supporting a faltering handset division did not make sense:

Our new Mobility Solutions strategy is showing signs of momentum, including our first major device software licensing agreement with a telecom joint venture in Indonesia. Under this strategy, we are focusing on software development, including security and applications. The company plans to end all internal hardware development and will outsource that function to partners. This allows us to reduce capital requirements and enhance return on invested capital.
